Swiss Cottage near Cahir, Co Tipperary with its distinctive thatched roof was built in the early 1810's as an ornamental cottage 'cottage orne' by Richard Butler the 1st Earl of Glengall.
The interior has an elegant spiral staircase with the Salon walls having one of the first commercially produced Parisian wallpaper. The cottage was part of a large estate and was used for entertaining guests. The cottage fell into disrepair and was restored and open to the public in 1989
