Rosses Point Blue Flag Beach has over 2km of fine sands and is backed by sand dunes. From the beach there are beautiful views of Sligo Bay, Knocknarea Mountain to the south and unique Benbulben Mountain to the north. The beach is life guarded during the bathing season (lifeguard patrol times are displayed on the information noticeboard at the beach). Rosses Point is situated 8km from Sligo town and the volliage itself has many great restaurants, accommodation and pubs. It also has 18-hole championship County Sligo Golf Club two magnificent sandy blue flag beaches, Sligo Yacht Club and a fully equipped sea angling boat for hire. The bay is ideal for windsurfing and other watersports.
North of Rosses Point marine archeologists have recently uncovered a wreck of the Spanish Armada which was storm-driven upon this coast in September 1588. The poet William Butler Yeats and his brother, the artist Jack Butler Yeats, spent their summer holidays at Elsinore House, in Rosses Point.
