Pádraic Ó Conaire (1882 – 1928) was an Irish writer and journalist, mostly in the Irish language. In his lifetime he wrote 26 books, 473 stories, 237 essays and 6 plays. A statue to his memory was erected at an unveiling by Éamon de Valera in 1935 in the heart of Galway City in Eyre Square. It was decapited in 1999 by vandals and was subsequently repaired and moved to Galway City museum. A replica of the statue is now in Eyre Square.
