The Belfast to Downpatrick Railway Line opened in 1859 and closed in 1950. This junction was built north of Downpatrick in 1892 to connect with Dundrum and Newcastle but was closed in 1950.
In 1993 the Downpatrick and County Down Railway with funding from the International Fund for Ireland created this replica station canopy using the remains of the original ironwork. The station is on the only operational railway triangle on a preserved railway.
