Horn Head is an impressive peninsula near Dunfanaghy, Co Donegal, Ireland is in the North West of the county and is a Discovery Point on the Wild Atlantic Way. This is a breathtaking peninsula where the cliffs rise to 600ft on the ocean side and is an area for breeding seabirds such as the European Shag and Razorbill. Photo by raymond Fogarty.
There are two great viewpoints on the Head - one on the north side where the scenery is dominated by the cliffs and the other overlooking Dunfanaghy. In Dunfanaghy there is a Famine Centre which tell the story of The Famine of 1845 - 1847 and how it affected the local area through death and emigration. Horn Head is designated a Natural Heritage Area with the cliffs designated a Special Protection Area and a Special Area of Conservation.
