Dunree Head is on the Inishowen Peninsula, Co Donegal in the northwest of Ireland and is a Discovery Point on the Wild Atlantic Way. There are splendid views from the Lighthouse and Fort overlooking Lough Swilly. The Dunree Lighthouse is approx 50m above the water and was built in 1876 with the light at ground level. Dunree Fort was built by the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars and was of strategic importance guarding the entrance to Lough Swilly and is now an excellent military Museum.
