Ballykeeffe wood nature reserve is a woodland of young ash, oak and abundant bramble and bluebells covering 55 hectares. It is located 12 km south-west of Kilkenny and situated on a prominent limestone hill. An old disused limestone quarry on this hill has created Kilkenny's very own outdoor auditorium beneath Ballykeefe woods and it is also very popular with rock climbers. Within the woods themselves there are many walks and trails to enjo, a historics Mass rock and plenty of plants and wildlife to enjoy. The NPWS aims encourage natural regeneration of the woods and Ballykeefe can also claim to have provided stunning Oak which was used on the Queen May ship.
