Carrowmore Strand is a beautiful sandy beach located 25km west of Westport at the foothills of Croagh Patrick. This beach is know for strong currants, so care is advised for swimmers as there are only lifeguards are on duty here during summer months. There is a pier on the west end of the beach, where during summer months you will often see curraghs moored off sheltered by the pier wall. It is a porular beach for walking, surfing, kite boarding and wind surfing. Carrowmore is a machair beach which is low and flat with windswept land plains. It is set between a rocky outcrop in a small bay off Clew Bay. 

Croagh Patrick:  the horizon is dominated by Irelands most famous and beautiful place of pilgrimage – Croagh Patrick, the Holy Mountain. This quartzite conical peak towers 2510 feet above the shore of Clew Bay and is site of pilgrimage for many who come to pay homage to our national patron saint. Legend has it that St. Patrick spent the entire Lent of the year 441, in prayer and fasting on the mountain. In emulation, for countless years, thousands of pilgrims have climbed these slopes, often in bare feet. The annual pilgrimage takes place on the last Sunday in July. From the top of this mountain, St. Patrick is supposed to have rid Ireland of snakes and all venomous creatures.
