Fermoyle Loop walk is a moderate 4.5 hour (13.5 km) loop walking route exploring the historical and geological features around Sneem, County Kerry, Ireland.
This walk follows minor roads, farm tracks and way marked paths through the unique Kerry Geopark, across grassy hillsides and through farmland. Walkers should always respect the property of the landowners who gave access permission for this walk. The route of the walk is marked by grey stone posts each with a WHITE arrow.
Stop at an appropriate vantage point and take in this view. It embraces the geological history of the Geopark:
- Old Red Sandstone rocks tilted steeply and forming the mountain range;
- Glacial activity – with corrie glaciers (note the rocky sides and the back wall cliffs of the coum or corrie);
- Broken, rocky country once covered by glacial ice;
- The relatively smooth landscape you are standing on, formed by material deposited by melting glaciers.
