The Kingfisher Cycle Route - Southern Loop is a moderate 227km (3 to 7 day) scenic cycling route around the Cuilcagh Mountains and lake-lands of Lough Erne and Lough Melvin passing through counties Fermanagh, Leitrim and Cavan in the north west of Ireland. At a casual speed visiting local attractions along the way and crossing Lough Erne by boat along the way, this route could be done comfortably in a glorious 5 days. This southern loop on the entire figure of 8 Kingfisher Cycle Trail offically starts in Carrick-on-Shannon but you can start at any number of points along the route.
The entire figure of 8 Kingfisher Cycle Trail is a signposted scenic cycling route covering over 480 km (300 miles) through counties Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim and Monaghan, Roscommon and Fermanagh in Northern Ireland. There are 2 main routes on the Kingfisher Cycle Trail, a number of side loops and other smaller cycles. We have also broken down these routes into smaller stages to allow everyone irrespective of fitness or time available to experience one of the great and varied cycles in Ireland. The other routes include:
- The Southern Loop (227 km) starting in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim
- The Drumshanbo Loop (38 km) starting in Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim
- The Clones Loop (25km) starting in Clones, Co. Monaghan
- The Ballyshannon Loop (21km) starting in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal
